The Platform
I've had the opportunity to speak with so many of you about how we can continue building the Middlebury we want to live in. Here are some of our major ideas:
Health & Wellness
Expanding the PE Credit qualifications to other physically active groups on campus, such as dance organizations
Exploring access to on-campus physical therapy to student non-athletes
Increasing counseling options and availabilities
Evaluate and refine improvements the Study Abroad Office has made to mental health resources before/during/after abroad
Student Spaces & Social Life
Developing an actual student center on campus
Reevaluating access to and quality of study spaces and identify areas of improvement
Increasing support for spaces-- such as the AFC and Palana-- that are crucial for students from marginalized communities
Establishing programming for students that stay on campus over breaks
Supporting ongoing SGA/student efforts to improve/diversify nightlife options at Middlebury
Inclusivity
In general, identifying the barriers that prevent professionals of color and of other underrepresented backgrounds from establishing a life/career at Middlebury
We need mental health counselors of color.
Pursuing and supporting initiatives that reflect the recent How Will We Live Together Report
Access to Resources
Creating a single booklet or database that houses information on the various opportunities available to students, such as funding sources
Determining how to streamline connections between campus organizations
Improving support for students who may feel unfamiliar with or overwhelmed by the rigor of academic commitments at Middlebury
Financial Aid & Employment
Demystifying financial aid processes for students wishing to study abroad
Improving access to/understanding of employment for students that qualify for work study
Exploring compensation for leaders of student organizations-- paying our peers for the intensive labor they put into improving our community
