About Me

Hey there! My name is Varsha and I'm a Junior joint majoring in Political Science and Religion from Harrington Park, New Jersey. I'm excited at the prospect of serving as your SGA President!

Below you can find more information about my involvement not only with SGA but with various organizations on this campus, and how these experiences inform my ability to best serve you.

If you have any thoughts or questions, please feel free to email me at vvijayakumar@middlebury.edu. I can also be found studying in Crossroads Cafe on most days and would love to chat!

Familiarity with SGA

I’ve been involved with the SGA in different capacities throughout my time at Middlebury. I served on the Institutional Diversity Committee of the SGA in my first year, and then as a Sophomore Senator. Through these experiences, I gained insight into how the entire body of SGA functions, and how to engage in productive and impactful conversations about issues that matter to the student body. This year, after a semester abroad in Chile, I have had the opportunity grow into my role as a Junior Senator and focus on supporting my fellow senators in their initiatives.

I believe that the role of President is one of guidance and support-- of enabling senators, committee members, and the student body to pursue solutions to the issues we all care about-- and that my experience with SGA makes me the best candidate to do so.

Involvement on Campus

My involvement with various groups across campus is what makes me distinct from other candidates-- these experiences shape my perspective and reaffirm that I will most accurately represent the student body.

My former roles as the President of the South Asian Student Association and a MAlt trip co-leader have equipped me with the tools necessary to managing the several moving parts of a large group and even larger endeavors. As a BOLD Scholar and a proud woman of color, I recognize the importance of supporting underrepresented voices in powerful spaces. I’ve learned to foster unity across difference by living in the Interfaith House last year and in the JusTalks Home this year. And my active engagement with dance groups at Middlebury-- such as Midd Masti, Evolution Dance Crew, and the Korean Culture Show-- has taught me to tirelessly and unapologetically commit to building community on a daily basis.
