First-Year Senator

The last year in SGA has taught me that the students who lead us must, above all, be compassionate. One can be as driven as definable but without compassion, there will be no glue; no drive; no desire. I thank the outgoing president, Nia Robinson, for teaching me this lesson. I was fortunate enough to be entered into an SGA that cared far more about the students of this college (whether their opinions were in dissent or in support) and was able to function superbly as a First-Year Senator.

Along this journey, I met Varsha. Without delay, I was drawn towards her compassion and strength of character. Varsha refuses to compromise her integrity, the integrity of the SGA and ensures that those around her are reminded of our duties as representatives of the student body. I've often been frustrated with certain opinions and Varsha always managed to take those opinions and make them an action point, that too, with grace and efficacy.

She is a leader. Someone I feel comfortable talking to about my life and my initiatives. She is ALWAYS willing to give critical feedback when requested and her feedback, I must agree, is always useful. She refuses to mute anyone's voice and is always willing to listen and learn, and lead.

She cares. Her commitment to SGA is not for her personal gain, because she has some point to prove or because she has nothing else to do. In fact, Varsha is one of the most involved students I know (and that's a tough thing to be, even at Midd). Her involvement is why she wants and deserves this positions. She has interacted with a plethora of students on campus, not only on the campaign road or in day-to-day life, but through struggles and pains and joys and victories and her experience has truly developed how much she cares about this campus and its students.

She is strong. I've grown to understand Varsha on a personal level. I have taken many journeys with her through her life's story. Varsha has endured, persevered and she constantly comes back stronger than before. Without doubt, she translates this energy to her work and tirelessly represents those she is tasked with representing.

She is the person I want as my leader.
